Re: perl 5.38.0

Thanks for the reply. I have just found out the the Debian julia package is dead. So it is unlikely that we will have a polymake package in Debian in the long run and a short term solution is no longer important. I feel sad about that, but while I would have been able to support a hack I don't think...

Re: perl 5.38.0

There is a difference in perspective between a linux distros package maintainer and you as an upstream developer. For maintaining the package a hack that does its job for 2 distro releases is good enough. The alternative is not having polymake in any linux distro for (my estimate) two releases.

Re: perl 5.38.0

I did a tiny bit of research. Perl is now using a gcc attribute (hidden) to hide internal functions. That is seemingly what hit polymake. See perldelta 5.38.0.

Re: perl 5.38.0

This means that polymake will vanish from all linux distributions for now. For Debian it will most likely not be in trixie.

Do we know why the perl developers are doing this? Has a workaround (temporary would be good enough) been requested?

Re: Documentation for file command line interface

If it wouldn't have stopped working, nobody in the GAP team would have noticed :-). I had hoped there would be a precise documentation. I started using ->give. Then I found out that there are methods like VISUAL, that are not properties but used for documented behavior on the gap side. Actually I am...

Documentation for file command line interface

Hi. A long time ago there was a command line interface that started with a data file followed by one or more properties. Is there any documentation on this? The source code of the command line parser would also be helpful. I need this to migrate the GAP polymaking package . My first approach (which ...
